October aboard the Airship

It's the most wonderful time of the year. The leaves are gorgeous, the weather is perfect and the sky is an endless blue.

And we are very very busy aboard the Inkstained Succubus.

We had a wonderful time at ContraFlow in New Orleans this past weekend. The people who run this show are wonderful, warm and accommodating. The panels were delightful, and the audiences asked good questions. The attendees showed a wide and amazing variety of costumes and creativity. The 501st was out. I completely recommend this convention to anyone in reasonable distance!

Our display continues to improve.

K9 broke down (for real, he had to go home on a scooter cart because his wheels refused) so the Doctor spent most of Saturday trying to repair him.

Gabriel appears to be ready to hitch a ride to adventure and trouble. It's okay. The Doctor will have zir home before they left.

And of course, New Orleans, so foooooood! We had pork chops and catfish, cheesey pasta with shrimp and fried mushrooms and okra, crawfish pie and shrimp po'boys.

So that was the fun part of October.

Now, it's work time.

Hungry Hearts WILL be out this month. It is in formatting, which means chaining Gabriel to a work table.

Candle in the Dark has been accepted, contracted and is going out to the editor. We plan to have it out in early November for holiday giving.

Nikolai Revenant is now full price. We gave away 248 copies of it. Reviews are welcome

"Diplomacy and Universal Constants" just came out. If you like your science fiction with a side of swashbuckling, give this one a try.

In order to do all this, we will be hard at it.

E-mails will be responded to relatively promptly (allow 3 days, please. I am on a grueling day job schedule).
If you submitted something in the last month, you will be hearing soon.

So, look for us at ConTraception in Independence MO on November 7-9!

It was a very slow quarter. Quarter Four has almost matched it already.

Remind them that paperbacks make great holiday gifts,

We have one more convention on the calendar and a second possible one.

Keep at it, guys!

New Release: Diplomacy and Universal Constants

We are pleased to announce Mihai Calugareanu's debut novella,

Legatus Tetradec Sarutahiko is a diplomat valued by the Solarian command for his uncanny ability to see through any pretense and most manipulation. When discovering that the alien Asimi have peculiar methods of doing business, Sarutahiko and his cadet must either find a way to work around this or fail both himself and his people.

$2.50 in .pdf, .eub,, or .mobi

Your captain says:
This is a rollicking bit of space adventure. I like Mihai's vision of the far future, which is very different, yet somehow familiar, from grumpy alien cab drivers to harried secretaries.

My Sexy Saturday: Sexy Into You

How about the characters that are over the top about each other, regardless of the situation? The ones who can never keep their hands off one another. The ones you know will be that little old couple you see at the park, still holding hands after 50 years. It’s those couples we are talking about this week.

Since it's what we're promoting: Nikolai Revenant

“James?” A low tenor voice rang out from the elevator as a blonde man in attractive wire-frame glasses, apparently not much older than Nick by his looks, came in and dropped an army duffel next to the elevator carelessly. He strode in, clearly knowing his way around, and headed straight for Ligatos.

Ligatos smiled and stood up, his arms wide. “Anthony. What brings you home so soon? I didn't expect to see you until I went to Italy.” His voice changed and Nick could imagine the worry on his face. “You aren't in disgrace, are you?”

The man took James in his arms, cradling him. “No, no, lover, nothing like that. I could never dishonor Master mine like that.” He smiled and kissed Ligatos. “I heard you were hurt, and threatened to disassemble all of Master Michelino's machines trying to find a way to weld together an airplane unless they sent me back to see you for a day or two.” He made a face. “Scratchy. You grew a beard, lover.”

Nick hid a smile at that. He didn't know what Anthony was talking about, but the sheer love behind the statement pleased him. He stayed on the floor, not looking up. Anthony didn't sound like a slave or servant, despite his use of ‘Master.’

“A change was necessary. I like the look of it. The injury was nothing, an expected part of the training.” Ligatos put both hands on either side of Anthony's face and kissed him passionately. “If you have one day, tonight is mine.”

Anthony quirked a grin. “Nah. I thought I'd stay up all night and go roller-blading.” He laughed. “Of course tonight is yours, James. More if I'm given it, and damn the consequences. I might shave you, though.”

Nick forgot himself and watched. Ligatos wasn't like this with anyone else, and no one he knew would speak so. This must be the missing team member David had told him of. The look of pure desire on Ligatos' face made him ache with wanting the man. But he hadn't earned that and thought of smooth concrete until it passed.

A Free Book for the asking

Some years back, I wrote a book called Nikolai.  Things have changed, and Nikolai was looking a little dated. So with the aid of Gabriel Belthir, I rewrote Nikolai, changing things I had never been happy with and setting up for the forthcoming books.

This is for you loyal readers who have copies, and for new readers interested in our work. If you've played in the Eight Thrones universe, or listened to me ramble, or whatever.

Nikolai Revenant, the rewritten Nikolai, is currently free for the month of September. Anthony, the prequel, will be out soon.

To get your .pdf copy, right click here  Nikolai Revenant

To get a .mobi or .epub copy, drop an email to inkstainedsuccubus at gmail.

We love you, our faithful fanbase, and hope you will join us on the journey to finish the series.

My Sexy Saturday: Our Sexy Life

You’ve seen these characters. They are the founding couple of a pack, an investigation unit, a rag-tag bunch of soldiers out to save the universe. These are the ones readers can’t get enough of and want to know what happens to them even if they aren’t the couple in the forefront. Share with us those sexy couples and let us know how their happily-ever-after stacks up against the rest of those couples out there.

This week, we're visiting a slightly different couple.

Adventuresses is a collection of lesbian short stories.

From "That Time They Talk About":

Clara sat doing the mending on the porch swing of the big old house, much the worse for war and rebuilding. No one lived this close to the old battleground. The trees did strange things, growing in odd shapes with luminescent moss on the trunks that glowed by day and night both. Superstitious old people said the trees moved too, when folks weren't watching them.

Vegetables came out odd, over-large, misshapen and badly colored. The animals gave birth to monstrosities that usually did not live. The two-headed calves were the hardiest and Clara had gotten their herd up a little.

“Come on, darling,” Clara coaxed, and in the dream, she sat on the swing beside her beloved. She laid one of the upper arms across the back of the swing, careful to keep the cape she always wore covering her back. She couldn't wear normal clothes, but a piece of cloth tied to cover the front and a cloak or cape did fine for most occasions.

“Do you love me?” she asked. “Even though?” She shrugged with both sets of arms.

Clara laughed and caught all four of her hands and kissed them. “I love that about you. It makes me feel secure. You can fight off the stinking rebels and still light one of your little cigars and hug me, all at the same time. Or you get three shots to their one, four if you would quit using that shotgun and pack a couple more pistols.”

“I ain't ladylike. Your Pa doesn't like me coming around to see to you.”

“It doesn't matter. Pa can't say a thing. He isn't hunting up meat for the pot and you are. He's not out planting and picking and working his hands into blisters so we can eat. I am. He's not been right since Antietam, and all the county knows it.” She gestured at the basket of mending and embroidery. “They keep me in needlework so we don't go begging for flour and salt, but it surely isn't easy.”

Woe!

Alas, due to unforeseen complications (our helmsmen got drunk and we're a thousand miles off course--not to mention upside down) the Mad Dogs and Englishmen promotion must be postponed until we get righted and back to our appointed rounds.

We should be back on track, and out of the safety harnesses, by September!
