My Sexy Saturday: Sexy Me Once

We all know that love happens and we want to know all about those special moments where those entities realize there is an emotional bond between one another. It can happen on an average day, during the night, in the middle of a zombie invasion or maybe a place where it’s hard to tell the day from the night like in a submarine or deep in space. The one thing we do know it’s going to be hot…hot…HOT!

From Jimmy Gillentine's Crossroads:

Your Seven Sexy Paragraphs:

Soon, where the Beast once sat, stood the man that Angela had traveled so far to see. Andrew stood up before her, dirt and dried blood covering his entire body. His hair was tangled and matted, and a thick beard covered his entire face. But in the light of the fire, Angela saw Andrew’s steel-blue eyes looking at her, full of tears.

“Andrew,” Angela said, drawing closer to him, “I’ve missed you so much.” She tried to wrap her arms around him, but he gently stopped her and backed away.

“Why?” Andrew spoke, his voice sounding harsh and still close to being animal-like. “Why did you come looking for me?”

Angela looked at him and drew even closer. Her hand went up to his chest and lightly touched it. She could feel his heart beating fast, and his muscles flinched from her touch.

“I had to find you, Andrew…”

“My name is not Andrew!” he yelled.

Angela didn’t even flinch. “It’s the only name I know to call you.” Angela said, moving her hand up to his face.“It’s the name of the man I love.”

Five Influences

Five Influences on Adventuresses

Adventuresseswebcover

Adventuresses, a collection of lesbian short stories, is one of Inkstained Succubus' steadiest sellers. The idea came about because the Literary Underworld had many requests for lesbian stories since they had several gay books on the rack. I had two pieces of 10,000+ words that had come out from under contract, as well as about 6000 more of the trucker lesbians. So I put it all together, wrote a few more and went from there.

But where did the ideas for the stories themselves come from?
Your Captain has answers.

1) Ice Pirates.

The diner scene in "Rewriting Old Songs" is lifted almost wholesale from the bar scene in Ice Pirates.
th
"Now you owe the lady and me an apology."

2) "A Thorough Examination/In Depth" (audio fic here)

I didn't know I HAD a medical fetish until I encountered this very dark bit of Sherlock fanfic. But apparently I did. It inspired some of the medical play in "Induced Paroxysms." There are a lot of other inspirations to that piece, including FroliCon and many steampunkers of my acquaintance.

3) "Mummy Medusa" by Skinny White Chick. (go, listen, I'll wait)

Because s00j rocks beyond the telling of it and this song is amazing. The backstory is, once upon a time, Medusa and Rapunzel fell in love with the same man. At a concert, she said "of course, if I wrote this as fiction, they'd probably fall for each other. In "Rock Us All Down," they do exactly that.

4) "John Wesley Harding" by Bob Dylan

"Carried a gun in every hand." This line made me wonder how many hands he had. Which in turn, gave me the image of the four-armed gunslinger in "That time they talk about." That's one universe I would like to revist. There are a lot of influences on that story, including Kornbluth's "Two Dooms" from the Hitler Victorious anthology, King's The StandHeavy Metal and any number of old western movies.

5) This picture.
janis_post11

It was a very popular poster of Janis Joplin and it inspired the lesbian scene in "Eight Days Ablaze." Ellora's Cave made me cut the scene, so I reworked it for this book, called it by the original title, "Burning for Eight Days" and let Adina have her sapphic fun.

Procedure and Work Flow; Or how a Pirate Airship Builds a Book, Step By Step

There has been a lot of chaos aboard the Airship as we work on our new SF anthology. And I have spent the morning staring at my Dread Machine in bemusement, befuddlement and vexation.

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

So, here is how a manuscript becomes a book. Pay attention, ducks, because there will be a test on this (if you're accepted) and I would hate to have to keelhaul anyone else.

1) You, the Author, write a book or short story or whatever, read the guidelines, format it correctly and submit it.

2) We, the Publisher, accept it.

3) We send you a contract and form to fill out. This form has been painstakingly assembled over the course of our experiences with other publishers. Everything we need to know in order to create your author page on our site, to do the cover art and to promote you is on there.

4) You read the contract and ask questions if you have any. You sign it and send it back. We use Echo Sign for this, but you can request a paper contract. You fill out the form. You do not give us a link to you Facebook or Twitter and say "Everything's there." I repeat, YOU FILL OUT THE FORM. This prevents meltdowns from our Web Wizard and Art Department. I'm too old to dodge thrown paint pots and flying pixels as I used to.

5) We work, you wait,

6) We send you content edits. These are places where our editor found holes or thin places, and you need to stitch them up. These will be sent as notes in your  .doc format manuscript, with only a few actual in-line changes.

7) You turn on Track Changes in your word processor and go through the content edits one by one. You can make the suggested change, make a better change of your own, or leave a note that it should stand as is, and edit the text around it to support this.  (there will be a post on this later) You send it back.

8) We work, You wait

9) We send you line edits. These are the grammar, punctuation and spelling errors. They will be done in-line, with the Track Changes on.

10) You go through, with Track Changes still on, and make your line edits and any other edits. You send it back.

11) We work. You wait.

12) We send you a galley proof. This is your last chance to change anything. Read through carefully. No major changes at this time, only minor ones. A sentence can be inserted, but not a whole paragraph. You send it back.

13) We work. You Wait.

14) We send you a shiny .pdf, .epub and .mobi format ebook copy, and two pretty paperbacks. We promote the book, you promote the book.

15) Profit!

My Sexy Saturday: Their Sexy thoughts

There’s a million ways lovers think about each other. Sometimes it’s in frustration, sometimes it’s with regret, sometimes it’s with anger…but underneath it all…there is love.

From Crossroads, by Jimmy Gillentine

Blurb:
Angela has been searching for her mysterious lover ever since the night he protected her from criminals by transforming into a creature like none she'd ever seen, caring little for his monstrous form. It matters only that he is the man she loves. Her search leads her far from her hometown, a trial not only of her love, but of the very meaning of right and wrong, of hunter and prey. Angela's real danger is seeking Andrew even as she is hunted by the true monsters of the world: her own kind.

~~~
Your Seven Sexy Paragraphs.  Welcome to Angela's Nightmare.
Angela looked around the forest clearing. She had been searching for hours in this forest,
trying to find the one thing her heart desired. Just as the sun began to set, she found him. Andrew
stood with his back to her, nude at the edge of the clearing. His long black hair flowed in the breeze,
his muscles cut and defined just as she remembered them. She ran over to him and grabbed him
from behind in a tight hug. She held him tighter and kissed his back, and sighed as she felt his
hands over hers.
“Andrew, I found you.” She kissed his back again. “Please, never leave me again.”
A low growl came deep from within Andrew’s chest. The grip on her hands grew tighter and
pain shot up her arms as he pushed her away. When he turned around, she saw the dark red eyes
of the Beast looking down at her. Andrew’s mouth opened, revealing rows of sharp jagged teeth
that belonged to his true form.
“Why do you chase after me?” Andrew growled as his body continued to change. “Stay away
from me!”
Angela stood in front of the Beast, and his grip was like steel as he hoisted her into the air. She
felt the monster’s hot breath on her face while his jaws opened to bite down.
“Andrew!” she screamed. “I love you! All of you.”
“You can’t love a monster!” the Beast roared as his jaws came down on her neck.
Re-Release!
We are pleased to announce the updated, upgrade and new edition of Jimmy Gillentine's Crossroads.
Crossroads was one of the first books Inkstained Succubus put out, and Jimmy was part of our learning experience. We learned a lot doing his book, and more after we did it. So we have re-issued it, with better editing (hopefully no one will accuse us of ADDING typos this time) and cover art that matches The Beast Within.
The Beast Within introduces us to Andrew, a mysterious bouncer, and Angela, a waitress. Angela slowly breaks through Andrew's icy isolation. But when they are in jeopardy from the local drug gang, she learns what he truly is: a monster. Andrew gives up his human life and vanished. In Crossroads, Angela searches for her missing lover, but she's not the only one on his trail. The government wants the Beast as their newest weapon.
If you like your paranormal romance with a side of monsters, give this a try!
A Dozen Ways to Make Your Editor Tear Out Her Hair
Hello ducks!
We're back from the holidays. They were exceptionally difficult this year, as the terrifying Matriarch of your Captain's family finally hit her expiration date and went to that Big Air Harborage in the Sky on Dec 15. So, we've been docked up near Possum Trot, sorting out the remnants of a life.
But we're back in the office now and hard at work on many many things.
Royalty statements went out last night (Monday). Payment goes out tomorrow.
So today, in a lighter vein, we're talking about ways to make your editor tear our her hair.  This is tongue in cheek, but only sort of.
A Dozen Ways to Make Your Editor Tear Out Her Hair
1) Don't read the call. At all. Just send something, anything. So what if they ask for m/m BDSM? You've got a hot pegging story and that's kind of the same thing. It's kinky, that works.
2) Don't proofread. That's what editors are for.
3) Homophones? Who cares about those confusing things? He walked threw the woods and through the pistol in the lake. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
4) Don't worry about the template. That's just silliness, besides, downloading stuff is dangerous.
5) Don't format at all. Indentation? Font? A writer cares not for these things. If you prefer to write in triple spaced, 14 point Wingding with four spaces after every period, go for it.
6) If you change a character's name half-way through, make sure you don't bother changing all the references. Let the readers wonder.
7) If you ask the editor about something and they say "Generally accepted style, which we use, does not use this," ignore them. Do it your way.
8)  Ask to be paid in porn.
9) When given a form to fill out--nice and neat with everything the editor, webdesigner and cover artist need to know--ignore it. Send back your twitter link, because everything they need is there.
10) Answer emails only with Lolcat gifs.
11) When asking questions of the editors on a panel, perform your question in pantomime.
12) Ignore the "What IS doesn't publish" list, and the editor bios and send us that Christian Inspirational swashbuckler that makes all the pagan deities out to be demons or the underage incestuous necrophilia fanfiction.
13) Demand your due as an author. Wrangle over every comma and space the editor puts in. Make no content changes, even when your editor points out one of your characters is having receptive sex and is still fully dressed.
There.
 A full dozen of hair-tearing things, only two of which are made up.
Please feel free to share the ways YOU like to make your editor beat her head into the wall.
